Manual Lymphatic Drainage-Manual Lymphatic Drainage-
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a specialized, gentle massage technique designed to accelerate the movement of lymphatic fluid throughout the body. Unlike traditional deep-tissue massage, MLD uses light, rhythmic strokes to stimulate the lymphatic system’s natural filtration process. This treatment is essential for clearing metabolic waste, reducing systemic inflammation, and strengthening the immune system. Whether used for medical recovery, detoxification, or general wellness, MLD provides a profound internal cleanse that restores balance and vitality to the entire body.
At Love Your Body Studios, our practitioners use the gold-standard Vodder-style techniques to ensure effective fluid movement and immediate relief from bloating.

Benefits of MLD
Systemic Detoxification, Immediate De-Bloating, Immune System Support, Stress & Nervous System Balance.
MLD BENEFITS
Systemic Detoxification
The lymphatic system is the body’s “waste disposal” unit. MLD manually assists the transport of lymph fluid to the lymph nodes, where toxins, viruses, and cellular debris are filtered out. This process deep-cleanses the body from the inside out, improving skin clarity and overall energy levels by removing the burden of stagnant waste.
Immediate De-Bloating
For those struggling with water retention, heavy legs, or abdominal bloating, MLD offers rapid relief. By moving excess interstitial fluid back into the circulatory system, the treatment visibly reduces swelling and “puffiness.” Clients often notice their clothes fitting better and a significant feeling of lightness immediately following a session.
MLD BENEFITS
Immune System Support
By increasing the flow of lymph, MLD helps the body transport white blood cells more efficiently to where they are needed. Regular sessions can help fortify the immune system, reduce the frequency of minor illnesses, and assist the body in recovering from chronic fatigue or seasonal allergies.
Stress & Nervous System Balance
The slow, repetitive, and gentle nature of Manual Lymphatic Drainage has a powerful effect on the nervous system. It shifts the body from a “fight or flight” state into a “rest and digest” state. This reduction in sympathetic nervous system activity lowers cortisol levels, improves sleep quality, and promotes deep relaxation.
TREATMENT PROTOCOL
To maintain a healthy lymphatic flow, we recommend the following guidelines:
Frequency: 1–2 times per week for active detoxification or during recovery phases.
Maintenance: A monthly session is ideal for ongoing immune support and fluid management.
Duration: Typically 50 to 60 minutes for a comprehensive full-body flush.
Hydration: It is essential to drink plenty of water after your session to assist the kidneys in flushing out the mobilized toxins.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Manual and Mechanical drainage?
Manual drainage (MLD) is a very light, specific technique focused on the superficial lymph vessels. Mechanical drainage (like Endermologie or Icoone) provides a more vigorous stimulation that can also target fat and cellulite. MLD is often preferred for highly sensitive or post-inflammatory states.
Is it supposed to be very light pressure?
Yes. Lymphatic vessels are located just beneath the surface of the skin. Using too much pressure can actually collapse these delicate vessels. MLD is a light, rhythmic treatment that should never be painful or cause bruising.
Can I do this for post-op recovery?
Absolutely. MLD is one of the most recommended treatments following surgery to safely move fluid away from incision sites and reduce post-operative bruising and swelling.
How will I feel after the session?
Most clients feel incredibly relaxed and "light." Because the treatment stimulates the removal of toxins, you may find that you need to use the restroom more frequently immediately following your session.
Is there any downtime?
No. There is no downtime. However, we recommend avoiding heavy meals or alcohol immediately after your treatment to allow your body to complete the detoxification process effectively.
How many sessions do I need?
While one session provides immediate relief from bloating, a series of 5–10 sessions is recommended for those looking to reset their immune system or manage chronic fluid retention.
